Dorris J. 'Dolly' Granger

Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure Jane AustenDorris J. (Dolly) Granger, 85,of Fonda and Newark Valley, died on March 6, 2013 with her daughter at her side. Born in Philadelphia on December 4, 1927 to Harold and Laura Horton, she was predeceased by her parents, an older sister, Viola Hanson, a daughter, Dawn Elaine Granger, and her former husband, John Granger.She is survived by her daughter Tia Granger (Walter) Zink, Newark Valley, her grandchildren, Chemberly (Shawn) Pecze, Raleigh, NC, W. Eric (Michelle) Zink, Jr.,North Charleston, SC, and Dr. John U. (Diana) Zink, Dallas, TX. Also surviving are the lights of her life, great-grandchildren Ava Elena and Davis Granger Pecze and her dear friend Martha Hensel.Dorris loved painting, opera, dancing, travel, gardening and reading. She was an avid Jane Austen fan, wearing out many copies of "Persuasion". She was also an accomplished artist, having attended art school from 5th grade through college, on scholarship.Dorris was an alumni of Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia and The College of St. Rose. She was assistant buyer for Fine Art at John Wanamaker in Philadelphia and retired from General Electric Financial Services, Schenectady. She was a member of the Iroquois Seniors in Tribes Hill and the Glen-Mohawk Seniors in Fonda.A Celebration of Her Life will be Tuesday, March 12, 10 am, at the Jackson& Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday, from 5-7 pm.
