Dorothy D. Hilliar

Dorothy Dora Hilliar, 93, of Berkshire, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at her home.

Born on June 11, 1932, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Arthur Decker and Lona Wells. She was the seventh of fourteen children and was raised in a loving and close-knit family. At the time of her passing, she was the oldest of her remaining siblings, Frida and Shirley.

Dorothy was a hardworking and dedicated woman throughout her life. From a young age, she helped care for her siblings and later spent time babysitting for others. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Donald Hilliar. Together, they built a life filled with love, hard work, and family, raising four children: Mike Hilliar, Kathie Johnson, Chris Hilliar, and Greg Hilliar.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Mike Hilliar, Chris Hilliar, Greg Hillar; and her grandchildren, Krista Hilliar, Kasey Hilliar (Brittney), Scott Woodmansee (Karla), Lynn Terwilliger, Kristen Hilliar, Greg Hilliar, Breanna Hilliar, and Jenna Hilliar. 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Kathie Johnson, and her grandson, Chase Hilliar.

Dorothy worked many jobs over the years, including at Ithaca Gun. She also owned and operated the “Tasty Freeze” in Richford alongside her daughter Kathie. She and her husband owned and operated a farm in Berkshire, where they raised chickens and turkeys while raising their family. Later, they entered the floor covering industry, specializing in tile work, which took them to various places across the country. Along the way, Dorothy made countless friendships and cherished the connections she built with others.

She found great joy in cooking, canning, and gardening, and she especially loved hosting family gatherings, particularly during the holidays. Dorothy and Donald shared a love for travel and truly lived life to the fullest together.

Dorothy, lovingly known as “Grandma,” was a woman who could do anything. She took great pride in raising her family while working hard throughout her life. Her strength, kindness, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.

She will be greatly missed. Comfort may be found in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved husband, continuing their journey together.
