Doris P Ridgway

Doris Pitcher Ridgway, 84 of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully at her home, as she had wished, in the presence of her beloved husband of 63 years, Jimmy and her children: Roxann Ridgway and Matt Ridgway. Doris is also survived by: her sisters, Betty Pitcher and Jane Brill; Janes children: Kenny, Mitch, Peggy; brother, her Jim and his children: Dave, Denise, Carrie, Bonnie, Jeff; Roxanns daughter Sheila and her children: Ciana and Logan; Matts children: Tim and Martha; Marthas children: Shaelyn, Brianna, Leah and Daryn. Also surviving is Anna Sopka, RN, a very special caregiver to Doris and the mother of Tim and Martha; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents James and Margaret Pitcher, she was predeceased by her sister Nancy Welch.Doris was a graduate of Newark Valley High School class of 1947 and was the proud holder of the largest collection of Newark Valley Central School Yearbooks. She was also a graduate of the Ridley Lowell School of Business and a retired employee of IBM, Owego. Doris was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family with a passion. She was an avid reader, a die-hard Yankee Fan, enjoyed board games, puzzle books and playing cards, especially bridge. The Newark Valley Girls bridge club group had as much fun in their Tuesday car-pooling escapades to the Owego Senior Center as they did playing bridge when they arrived there! Friends wishing to remember Doris with a memorial gift are asked to kindly consider the Newark Valley High School Library or Year-book Club. Doris will be laid to rest in a private grave side service at Hope Cemetery Friday morning. Friends are welcome to join her family as they celebrate her life on Friday from 4-6 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
