Donald Lee Whittaker,72, of Leesburg, Fla, died June 22, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Don was born in Berkshire, NY, February 9 1939, the first son of Riley and Charlotte (Fogle) Whittaker.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Rice) Whittaker, three children, Janine Shaffer Brill (Bo) of Arnold Md, Wendy (Dave) Albertini of Rockville Md. and Jeff (Kim) Whittaker of New Windsor, Md.: Grandchildren Nathan, Emily, Gregory and Joseph; his Father Riley of Owego; brothers Robert (Diana) Whittaker of Brooktondale, NY, and Dennis Whittaker of Owego, NY: many cousins, nieces and nephews.His Mother Charlotte, and his son-in-law Tom Shaffer predeceased Don.Don retired after many years of service with IBM, largely working on the national space program in various US locations.After retirement, Don & Barbara located in Leesburg where Don avidly pursued his passion for golf with the Plantation Residents Golf Club.An internment service will be held Monday, June 27, 2011. 11 AM. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Berkshire, NY. The Rev.
