Donald L Cross

Donald L. Cross, 86, a long-time, well-respected resident of Newark Valley passed away peacefully on June 24, 2022. Don was predeceased by his daughter Monica AlexJohn. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of almost 67 years, Lucy (Sick) Cross. Also surviving are his devoted children: David (Linda), Daniel and Michael (Shelley) Cross; his grandchildren: Jessica, Eric, Matthew, Andrew, Victoria, Gerry-Leah, Ellen, Jared; great grandchildren: Hannah, Owen, Levi, Luke, Evelyn, Gwendolyn, Rayah; many nieces and nephews and his former daughters-in-law Dolores and AnneMarie. Don was born in Endicott, son of the late John and Alda Cross and brother of the late Albert Cross. He graduated from Union Endicott High School in 1953 and shortly thereafter began his 36 year career with IBM in Endicott. Throughout his life he was an avid outdoorsman loving nature, hunting, fishing and trapping. He was an active member of the former Newark Valley Sportsman Club and enjoyed sharing his knowledge, passion and skills with many. The beauty of the evergreen trees at the former sportsman club is due in part to the hard work of Don. In addition to his many generous contributions to the community and his devotion to his beloved Lucy, he was a volunteer at the Cider Mill Playhouse, active with the Newark Valley Historical Society and Tappan-Spaulding Memorial Library. Friends are invited to join with Dons family for a period of visitation and sharing of memories at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. Newark Valley, on Wednesday, June 29th from 2-3 pm. A memorial service and celebration of Dons life will follow there at 3 oclock. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to join the family at the Newark Valley Fire Hall, 7151 State Rte. 38, Newark Valley for a catered meal.
