Donald E. Williams

August 9, 1953 — December 30, 2014

Never shy away from opportunity and wholehearted living. Never be fearful of putting yourself out there. The courageous may encounter many disappointments, experience profound disillusionment, gather many wounds; but cherish your scars for they are the proud emblems of a truly phenomenal life. The fearful, cautious, cynical and self-repressed do not live at all. And that is simply no way to be in this world. Anthon St. MaartenDonald E. Williams, 61, of Slaterville, passed away on Dec. 30, 2014. He leaves behind many who loved and respected him and his courage and tenacity including his beloved caregiver and wife of 39 years, Suk Hui Cindy Williams; his son and best friend, Justin and wife Niki and their children Brendan and Molly and .Fingers. Also surviving are his siblings and their spouses, Ronald G. and Marilee, Bernard Skip and Charlotte, Arnold and Peggy, Daniel and Anne, Gwendolin E. and Elwyn Riley, Ethel and Laurence Orton; his brother-in-law: Chong You and Madoline and many special nieces and nephews, Chuck, Skip. Heather, Keith, David, Brigham, Tanya, Robin, Lisa, Vonnie, Tyler, Jace, MiJin and Ken as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Wilma Williams. Don was a US Army Veteran serving in Korea during the Vietnam era and was extremely proud of his military service. His interest were vast and varied and Fingers was a great help in quenching his thirst for knowledge. He loved all music, family gatherings, long rides in the country, phone conversations, spoiling his grandchildren and FB! Don faced adversity head-on. He was a tremendous influence and emotional help to many in similar situations as his own as well as to many others. His memberships included DAV, EPVA, PVA, the American Legion and the Dryden VFW. Family and friends are invited to gather at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley on Sunday, Jan. 4th from 12 noon until 3 PM to share stories and celebrate his life. A funeral Service will follow there at 3 pm with Rev. Les Aylesworth officiating. Full military honors will be accorded. Dons final resting place, in the spring, will be in the Charles Mulks Cemetery, Slaterville. Friends wishing to honor the life of Donald with a memorial contribution are asked to kindly consider either of his favorite concerns: The New Spinal Cord Unit at Syracuse VA Hospital or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
