Dolores "Susie" Wakeman
Owego, NY
Dolores A. Wakeman, 83, of Owego, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. “Susie” as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, was born in Newark Valley on May 26, 1941, the daughter of the late Donald and Elizabeth (Saddlemire) Morse Sr.
Susie is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Wakeman, with whom she shared a remarkable journey of love and companionship. Together, they explored the country in their RV, creating a tapestry of memories that will be cherished forever. She was the cornerstone of a large and loving family, including her children Tim (Donna) Wakeman, Kelly (Joe) Lawrence, Bobby Wakeman, Brian (Kelly) Wakeman, and Boyd Wakeman. Her legacy continues to shine brightly through her eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Susie is also survived by
her siblings Jake Morse, Clara Vergason, Grant Morse and Grace Ford.
She was predeceased by her brothers Teddy Morse and Clyde Morse along with her sister Helen Wakeman.
Susie’s hands were rarely still as she loved to sew and crochet. Her cooking and baking were the highlights of family gatherings, and her cookies were legendary among friends and loved ones. She relished the excitement of occasional trips to the casino, a delightful contrast to her otherwise selfless and nurturing nature. While raising five kids, she still worked a full-time job, with many years at IBM Owego and then Lockheed-Martin until she retired.
Susie’s strength was evident in her courageous battle with breast cancer, from which she emerged a survivor. Her resilience and optimism in the face of adversity were an inspiration to all who knew her. She was the embodiment of love, always placing the needs of others before her own, and her gentle spirit will be profoundly missed. At the same time, she would let you know if she was not pleased or content with a situation.
We remember Susie not just for the things she did, but for the warmth and kindness she exuded. Her unwavering love for her family was the essence of her being. As we say goodbye, we take solace in knowing that her loving presence will forever be felt in the lives of those she touched.
A celebration of Susie’s life will take place at a later date. Memories and condolences can be shared in her online guestbook at www.macphersonfh.com.
