Devoted To God & Family - Devere Lorraine Mayo, age 91, of Mechanicsburg, PA (formerly of Vestal, NY), went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 16, 2021. Devere was born on January 12, 1930, in Brookville, PA to the late Wade Mayo and Ethel (Allshouse) Mayo. In addition to his parents, Devere is preceded in death by his brother, Dean Mayo. Deveres survivors include his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Hill) Mayo; his brother Paul Mayo and wife Mary Lou (Boise) of Wellington, OH; his sister-in-law Ethelmae (Shisler) Mayo of Grafton, OH; his three children: Randy Mayo and wife Nancy of St Louis, MO; Ronny Mayo and wife Rebecca of Portville, NY; and Marlene Post and husband Richard of Mechanicsburg, PA. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren: Adam Mayo and wife Brittany of Casper, WY; Daniel Mayo and wife Johanna of St Louis, MO; Ryan Mayo and wife Kristi of Lawrence, KS; Jaimi Warrick and husband Mark of Dalton OH; Kristin Post of Greenville, SC; Kira Furlonger and husband Craig of Detroit, MI; Luke Mayo of Georgetown, TX; Melissa Post of Mechanicsburg, PA; Shane Mayo of Casper, WY; Jessica Post of Greenville, SC; Joseph Mayo of San Antonio, TX; and Matthew Post of Mechanicsburg, PA; his 11 great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews. Devere graduated from LaGrange High School of LaGrange, OH in 1948. He then devoted his life to serving the Lord. After graduating in 1951 from Practical Bible Training School in Johnson City, NY, he pastored small Baptist churches in Beaver Meadow, NY, Climax, MI, Gilboa, NY, Wellsboro, PA, Dundee, NY, and Jasper, NY. Besides his preaching/teaching ministry, Devere always enjoyed helping others with whatever he could, whether it was clearing rocks from cornfields, building additions, or working on an elderly persons car. Devere and Barbara retired to Vestal, NY where he continued supplying pulpits for various churches and helping others. After a stroke in late 2019, he remained in skilled nursing care until he joined his Savior on 1/16/2021. While we know of a surety from the very words of God that he now walks and talks freely with the Creator of the universe, and therefore we cannot wish him back, we will nevertheless greatly, greatly miss one of the most unique and caring individuals we have ever had the privilege of knowing. Devere will be laid to rest at the Vestal Park Cemetery in Vestal, NY on January 22, 2021 under the care of MacPherson Funeral Home of Newark Valley, NY. A private Memorial Service will be held at the Buch Funeral Home in Manheim, PA on January 23, 2021.
