Dessie L. Cortright, 96, of Candor, born on January 5, 1913, was united with her Lord and Savior on January 16, 2009. Dessie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Sharon Wilson (with whom she has resided for the past two years), Kenneth and Melba Wilson; and her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Robert Mimms. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Rick, Karen, Jolie, Jamie, Jessica, Jaclyn, Leslie, Jared, Seth, Kristen and Sarah; her six great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, LaVere Cortright, Irving (Norma) Cortright; and several nieces and nephews. Dessie was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Amelia (Grey) Leitner; her husband, Glenn (2006); and her siblings. She was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Owego, a member of the Lutheran Woman's Missionary League and Christian Women's Club. Dessie devoted her life to her family and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Dessie will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Owego with Rev. David C. Werly, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider memorial donations to the Zion Lutheran Church, Rt. 17 C West, Owego, N.Y. 13827, in loving memory of Dessie L. Cortright. Caring services are being provided by The Cooley Family of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
