Dessie L. CortrightFormerly of Newark ValleyDessie L. Cortright, 96, of Candor, born on Jan. 5, 1913, was united with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 16, 2009. Dessie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Paul and Sharon Wilson (with whom she has resided for the past two years), Kenneth and Melba Wilson and her daughter and son-in-law: Kathryn and Robert Mimms. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Rick, Karen, Jolie, Jamie, Jessica, Jaclyn, Leslie, Jared, Seth, Kristen, Sarah, 6 great grandchildren, brothers-in-law: LaVere Cortright, Irving (Norma) Cortright and several nieces and nephews. Dessie was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Amelia (Grey) Leitner, her husband Glenn (2006), and her siblings. She was a long time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Owego, a member of the Lutheran Womans Missionary League and Christian Womens Club. Dessie devoted her life to her family and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A funeral service for Dessie will be held at 3 PM on Sat. Jan 24, 2009 at the Zion Luthran Church in Owego with Rev. David C. Werly, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 7-8:30 PM and on Sat. from 1-3 PM. In lieu of flowers kindly consider memorial donations to the Zion Luthran Church, Rt. 17 C West, Owego, NY 13827 in loving memory of Dessie L. Cortright. Caring services are being provided by The Cooley Family of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
