Dennis H. Riley

Dennis H. Riley, 74, of Newark Valley, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015 following an illness.Dennis was a devoted husband to Veronica (Mischick) Riley and a wonderful dad to their daughter Susan (Luis) Riley-Zelaya. Also surviving are his brothers Larry (Kay) Riley and Jerry Riley, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Born on April 11, 1941 in Greenville, PA Dennis was a son of the late Fred and Hope (Matter) Riley. Dennis received his BS degree from Edinboro University, in PA and was a dedicated and highly valued employee of IBM for more than 30 years. He was a man of many talents, equipped with a marvelous sense of humor, an analytical mind, a gentle-giant type of demeanor, a very generous and giving nature with an insatiable love of ice cream, especially pineapple sundaes! His building and carpentry skills have left a legacy throughout Tioga County with Rural Ministry, Habitat for Humanity and especially with the Newark Valley Historical Society where he was instrumental to the construction of the Welcome Center, the Pavilion and the Sycamore Bridge. When he wasnt working at the Bement-Billings Farmstead he could be found at the Depot installing new restrooms, adding storage space or re-modeling the kitchen. Dennis was a wonderful friend to all and never tired of helping others. He left a very large footprint and will be greatly missed but his legacy will live on in all the many projects that he was a large part of completing. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling with Veronica, hanging out in the woods and gardening.A period of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Friday from 3-6pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
