Dee Yancey Moore, Sr.

November 21, 1924 — September 26, 2009

Dee Yancey Moore, Sr.of MaineDee Yancey Moore Sr., 84, died peacefully on Saturday September 26th at the Johnston Nursing Facility on the Hilltop campus. He was born on Nov. 21, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, Texas, the eldest son of the late Jess L. and Willie Frances (Yancey) Moore. Dee Y. was an active member of the Maine and Endwell communities, where he, together with his wife Carol Jane raised their family and operated Moore's Chevron. He graduated as valedictorian of his Mt. Vernon High School class and chose to serve his country in the US Navy instead of accepting a college scholarship. He proudly served during both WWII and the Korean War. While stationed in Pensacola, Florida he met and married Carol Jane Clark a young Navy nurse from Maine, NY to whom he was married for over 60 years. In later years, they enjoyed vacationing at the family cottage on Sylvan Beach, Oneida Lake and traveling, especially "home" to Texas, until her death in 2005. For the past two and one half years, Dee Y. and Dianne Lindeborn have enjoyed each others company, continuing to travel to visit friends and family across the country. Dee Y. was a member of the Maine Federated Church, Sylvan Beach Union Chapel, Maine American Legion, Nanticoke Valley Historical Society and a past master of Maine Masonic Lodge #399. Dee Y. retired in 2002 after more than 50 years of caring for the automotive needs of his customers at his service station on Watson Blvd. in Endwell, NY. Perhaps most noteworthy was his deep rooted love of horses; known on a local level as the Founding Foreman of the Maine Mavericks horse club, and on the national level as a magnificent rider and showman. Dee Y. continued riding until well after his 83rd birthday. Dee Y. was predeceased by Carol Jane and his brother Allen Moore. He is survived by his "lovely lady", friend and companion Dianne Lindeborn; his children and their spouses, Diane and Bud Ames, Cortland, Dee Yancey and Linda Moore, Maine and Tanya and Randy Pifer, North Bay. He was most proud of his grandchildren, Johanna (Ames) and Matt Coats, Tanya Ames, Christina (Pifer) and Russel Dollan, Randall Dee Pifer, Devin, Cedric, Aaron, Tyler and Spencer Moore and his great-grandson, Mason Ames Coats. Also surviving are his brother and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Lavon Moore and Dottie Moore. He was blessed with the friendship of Bob Avery, Tom and Laura Jones, Terry Stever along with many others. The family will receive friends at the Maine Federated Church, Main Street, Maine from 6-8 pm on Friday October 2 and again from 9:30 to 10:30am on Saturday October 3. A Masonic service will be held Friday evening at 8pm. A celebratory service of Dee Y.s' life will be held Saturday at 10:30am at the Maine Federated Church with the Reverends Sprite and Steve Johnson, Jannette Clavez and Jose Valencia officiating. Interment will be in the Maine Cemetery. Contributions in honor of Dee Y. may be made to: The Maine Federated Church, The Sylvan Beach Union Chapel or to the Maine Mavericks Scholarship Fund.
