David R. Leonard

David R. Leonard, of Newark Valley, passed away early Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2010 at age 81. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce, of 57 wonderful years, his three children; Daniel and his wife Mary Ellen; Karen and her husband Edward; Timothy and his wife Karen; many close friends and his childhood friend Jay and Eleanor Shoemaker, as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved more than life!The youngest of three boys, he was born August 1st, 1929 in Johnson City, NY, to Arthur and Lina (Kelly) Leonard, He served eight years in the National Guard Reserve and was a Quarter Century member of IBM Owego, retiring after 32 years as an Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer. David was a loving husband, devoted father and devout Christian. He enjoyed spending time with his brittany spaniel Lady, was an avid outdoorsman, a talented cartoonist, avid reader, student and historian of the Civil War. David was a gentle soul who cared much about others and will be greatly missed. A Tribute to his life is being planned and the date and time of service will be announced at a future date.
