David L. Hoyt

February 9, 1945 — April 28, 2015

David L. Hoyt, 70, of Canandaigua and former long-time resident of Newark Valley, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 28, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer. David is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, (Fifty on July 3rd) Diana (Pine) Hoyt and his two devoted sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis and Karen Hoyt and their sons, Jarrett, Joshua, Justin; and Scott C. and Donna Hoyt and their sons, Shane and Brady. Also surviving are his siblings: George (Linda), Charles (Loretta) and Timothy Hoyt, Ann (Willard) Schultheis and Nancy Rosenberger, sister-in-law, Donna Hoyt and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents George and Ella (Avery) Hoyt and siblings, Donald Hoyt, Marion Wait and Janet Kuenzle.Dave was a graduate of Newark Valley High School Class of 63 and was a member of the former IOOF. In his early years, Dave was a carpenter by trade and assisted in the construction of many buildings including the drug store, Hollenbecks IGA, NBT Bank, the R&L restaurant and the Gazebo on the village green. In fact, the NEWARK VALLEY letters he made are still a beautiful part of the Gazebo. Later on he was an employee of the Owego and then Newark Valley Central School district and retired from Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua in 2014.Daves family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Sunday from 2-4 PM. A Celebration of His Life will follow there at 4 PM with his friend Jim Buchholz officiating.Friends who wish, may kindly consider directing memorials in Daves name to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Assoc.
