Darryl L Sherwood, 81, of Newark Valley, passed away on May 14, 2023 following a brief illness.

Darryl is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Sherwood, his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Michelle Sherwood, his daughter, Lorri Maloney and his adored grandchildren Morgan (Kyle) Williams, Madison Sherwood, Jonathon Sherwood, Joseph Sherwood; nieces and nephews. Jennifer, Missy, David, Phillip, Ricky, Toni, Rick and Jon; uncle Richard Foster; cousin, Denny McKeirnan; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Carol Sherwood, Yvonne and John Maletto.

Darryl was predeceased by his parents John Kenneth and Dorothy (Foster) Sherwood and his brother Jack Sherwood.

As a young man, he resided in Johnsonburg, PA. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served 2 years. Returning to Johnsonburg, he began his 35 year career with the US Postal Service. He was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying both hunting and fishing. Additional activities included his membership in the Lions Club; carpentry and building furniture, participating in Little League baseball and scouting. Twenty years ago, he and Barbara relocated to Newark Valley to be closer to his family. With his grandchildren active in so many sports, (and his son a coach), it was not very long before he began volunteering and soon became known by many of the students as ‘Grandpa’ and # 1 spectator. His great sense of humor as well as his ability to tell a great story and his love of people will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Rest in Peace Darryl.

Abiding with his wishes, family services will be private. For those wishing to carry on Darryl’s good works, memorials may kindly be directed to the Newark Valley High School Booster Club. MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, NY is assisting the family. Memories condolences may be written in Darryl’s guestbook at macphersonfh.com
