Darlene Hill, 101 years young, and affectionately known as Grandma Happy, passed away peacefully at her home on December 12, 2020, surrounded in the love of her family. Darlene was born on September 6, 1919 in Strawberry Point, Iowa, a daughter of the late Willis and Eva Mae (Zimmerman) Warner. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Delmar Hill, her daughter Diane Ripic and her brother and sister, Willis Warner and Dorothy Rutbell. She will be dearly missed by her son, Darrel (Tammy) Hill, son-in-law, Edward Ripic, Sr.; grandchildren: Edward (Erin) Ripic, Jr., Timothy (Kim) Ripic, Deborah (Christopher) Magee, Patricia (James) Brenchley, Lori (Carolyn Chow) Hill, great-grandchildren: Faith Brenchley, Jonathan, Ethan, Timothy, Anthony and Jayden Ripic, Rebecca (Garrison) Christian, Benjamin and Samuel Sherry, M. Andrew and Zachary Milicic; great-great grandchildren: Reuben, Isaac and Ian Sherry, Graysen Ripic and her niece, Margery Rutbell. Darlene has been a long-time devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark Valley where she very much enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a volunteer with the Rural Ministry, served at the community center, Council on the Arts, as well as with Meals on Wheels and as director of the former Dinner Bell in Newark Valley. Other memberships included Newark Valley and Golden Age Sr. Citizens Groups, The Newark Valley Historical Society, and Chapter B, PEO Sisterhood. She enjoyed card playing, fishing and most especially being with her family. Friends and family are invited to the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, for a period of visitation on Saturday, Jan. 9th from 6-7.
