Dana C Schanbacher, 57, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2014. He was predeceased by his son Joshua Thomas, his parents Walter and Marie Schanbacher and sister-in-law Barbara Smith. Dana is survived by his wife Julie (Smith) Schanbacher and three daughters who were the light of his life; Steffi Julia, Christa JoMarie and Kathryn Dana, all at home. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Walt and Nan Schanbacher, Julies family; her parents: Lowell and JoAnne Smith, and her siblings: Jeff and Lori Smith, Gregg Smith, Dee (Smith) and Doug Hazlett, and Cris and Jane Smith as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins dear to his heart. Dana had a special friend who will always be known as his brother from another mother, Tom (and Charlene) Jordan of Mission Viejo, CA. Growing up together, they were inseparable, and to this day no one ever knew Dana quite like Tom. Dana was a fantastic Registered Nurse. His career included employment at General Hospital (6th floor and ER) as well as providing compassionate geriatric care at UHS Ideal Senior Living. He was a life member of Newark Valley Fire Company and served several years on the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad where he made life-long friends. He also had a great love of history and enjoyed participating in Civil War re-enactments. A Celebration of Danas Life will begin with a luncheon at 1 oclock, Sunday, Jan. 4th at the Newark Valley Fire Station. All are welcomed to attend.
