Charles William Young, Sr.

Charles W. Young, Sr., 93, of Owego, NY formerly of Endicott, NY, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 in the house he had built himself and surrounded by those he loved. Charles was born in Candor, NY, on October 8, 1927, the son of the late Charles E. and Ella May (Huslander) Young. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy, and his second wife Betty, and sisters Beverly Balschweit and Olive Smith. He is survived by his sons: Charles "Scooter" (Therese) Young, Jr. and Joseph (Arlene) Young; Bettys children: Judy Scott, LaVerne "Skip" Scott who shared a close and special friendship with Charles, Tom (Pat) Scott, James (Sheryl) Scott, and Brian (Misty) Scott; 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including Karen Jagger, Nancy Babcock, Paula Balschweit and Paul Balschweit and several nieces and nephews in Clay Center, KS. Charles served his country in 1945 when he joined the United States Navy arriving on the U.S.S. Gear in World War II. He has been a member of the VFW in Owego ever since his return from war in 1946. Dedicated in whatever did, Charles found employment at Stockmore Chair Company in Owego for 47 years. He was an especially skilled carpenter and liked to restore houses, including building his own home. Charles also enjoyed baseball, hockey, gardening, and coin collecting. Well always remember Charles as a real nice guy! Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, on Sunday, September 26th from 12-2 p.m. A celebration of Charles' life will follow at 2 pm at which time full military honors will be accorded. Burial will take place on Monday, September 27th at 11 am in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
