Charles H. Hughes

Charles H. Hughes, 72, of Vestal and formerly of Newark Valley passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012 following a period of declining health. Charles is survived by his wife Celerina; daughter Katharine Madden; sisters Connie Hughes; Joan (Ray) Shaver; brother-in-law: Paul (Jerene) Entzminger; grandchildren: Tomas, Serina (Patrick); Pilar; great grandchildren: BellaDonna and Keegan; several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families also survive. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Esther Entzminger.Charles was born on December 1, 1939 in Endicott, a son of the late Leonard Charles and Barbara Belva (Baker) Hughes. He was a 1958 graduate of Newark Valley High School where he excelled in numerous sports and was selected to play with Ernie Davis and Jim Brown. Following high school he served his country proudly with the US Marines. On May 29, 1964 he married Celerina Cabantoc. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He will be greatly missed by his family.A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Wednesday, February 1st from 11 to 1 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley.
