Catherine Katchmar Yapleof RichfordKay Yaple passed peacefully to her next life on February 28, 2010. Born 89 years ago on Feb. 7, 1921 in Mayfield, PA, Kay was the daughter of Michael and Mary (Balbuzo) Katchmar. In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by her husband Donald P. Yaple, granddaughter, Natalie Yaple, sisters, Ann and Mildred and brothers, John, Fred and Nicholas. Kay is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles H. and Sharon (O'Hara) Yaple of Marathon, Gerald P. and Maralyn (Northcutt) Yaple of Hendersonville, NC, her sister, Jean K. Lane, grandchildren, Matthew Yaple, Jessica Yaple, Jeremy and Sandra (Baker) Yaple, Brianny Yaple, four great grandchildren, a step daughter Janet Yaple Grimes and a dear friend, Rosie Young.Kay enjoyed people and had a great amount of pride in the Richford Community. During the 1950s she assisted her husband in managing the Richford Town League Baseball team and in the development of Richford's Rawley Park in the 1960s. She was also the co-founder and operator of the Richford Diner also known as the DonKay Diner, a member and past officer of the Richford Senior Citizens and a board member of the Richford Congregational Church. Kay was an avid reader, a crossword puzzle enthusiast and a gardener. Above all, she cherished her family.A celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, NY. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Richford.In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Kay with a memorial contribution are asked to consider a contribution to the Berkshire Senior Citizens, c/o Jackie Morris, Treas, 76 Morris Manor Dr. Berkshire, NY 13736 or the Richford Historical Society, c/o William E.
