Cassie C. Pastalan

Always in our thoughtsForever in our hearts Early in the morning on Dec. 4, 2018, surrounded in the love of those she held most dear, Cassie C. Pastalan, 92, peacefully entered into heaven. Cassies life has been rewarding and fulfilling. She earned her BS in nursing from Keuka College and over the years, many have been blessed by the gentle and compassionate care received from Cassie until her retirement at age 72. Cassie was a devoted wife for 62 years to her beloved husband Ted (1928- 2017) and a cherished mother to their children: Gregory J. (Sheryl) Pastalan, John Z. Pastalan and Elaina M. (Dr. Larry) Sheiman. Her grandchildren Joseph and Kayla Pastalan adored her. Also surviving are her brother, Anthony Cyganovich and sisters Mary Tchir and Mildred (Emily) Kwiatkowski, sisters-in-law, Helen Romanowski, Alice Pastalan and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Cassie was predeceased by her parents Ignace and Sophia (Borek) Cyganovich and her siblings Nellie, Frances, Helen, William, Ignace and John. Cassie was a long-time, devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Newark Valley. She raised beautiful flowers and vegetables. Her presence was both warm and calming yet she loved to sing and dance (especially the polka with Ted) and always enjoyed a good laugh. Marathon pinochle games will long be remembered by the Cyganovich clan. Cassies family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Thursday, from 2-4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday at St. John the Evangelist Church followed by burial in Hope Cemetery. In keeping with Cassies purpose to assist those in need, contributions to the Tioga County Rural Ministry, 143 North Ave., Owego, NY 13827 in her memory would be appreciated.
