Caroline M. Bruetschof OwegoCaroline M. Bruetsch, 78, formerly of Union Center, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2009. Caroline is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Bernard Bruetsch, at home, her cherished children and grandchildren, John and Janice Bruetsch, their children, Jason, Daniel and Kyle; Bill and Annette Bruetsch, their children, Billy and Dylan; Dennis and Kelly Bruetsch, their children, Michael, Devin, Sheldon; Jolene and Lynn Struzinsky, Jr. and son Jade Rothman, her brothers Lou (Linda) Shaffer, Dick (Ronnie) Shaffer, and sister, Jane (Jack) Harrington. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.Caroline was born on June 8, 1931 in Endicott a daughter of the late Louis J. and Sophia (Dutkowsky) Shaffer. She was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School and a devoted member of Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine, NY for more than 50 years. She was also a former employee of Anitec in Binghamton. Caroline enjoyed knitting, quilting, needlepoint, ceramics, bowling, traveling, dining out and the happy times shared with her and Bernard's close circle of friends at breakfast outings.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Holy Rosary Church, Maine on Thursday at 11 am. Rev. Clarence Cerwonka, Pastor, will officiate. The family will receive their friends at the church for one hour prior to the celebration of Mass. Interment will be in Maine Cemetery. Expression of sympathy in memory of Caroline may be directed to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, NY 13850 or the V Foundation for Cancer Research, 106 Tower View Ct., Cary , NC 27513. Caring services are being provided by the Cooley Family of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
