Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor, his four children: Rebecca (Kenneth Gay), Karen, Kenneth (Kellie) and Amy; seven grandchildren: Brittany, Ashley, and Michaela Gay; Haley Gee; Camille, Grayton and Truman Johnson; his many nieces and nephews, his golden retriever, Boomer, and many others who simply knew him as "Uncle Bruce". Special mention to Scott Theal, nieces Cindy, Cheryl, and their families for their love and care over the years. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard B. and Martha O. Johnson, and his siblings, Barbara Toft, Virginia Hubbell, and Joan Head. Bruce was born at Ideal Hospital in Endicott, NY on September 22nd, 1940. He graduated from Union Endicott High School and continued to Houghton College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. Bruce married Eleanor Schober on August 1, 1969. They were married for 52 years, living in Vestal Center, NY before moving to Newark Valley, NY. Bruce worked as a probation officer for the Broome County Department of Probation for 36 years before his retirement in 2002. During these years, he helped many in crisis to see a more positive path forward in life. One especially rewarding facet of his work was serving as an adoption investigator where he helped connect over 2,000 children in need with loving homes. Outside of his professional work, he enjoyed spending time in his woodshop, camping and fishing with his best friends Ken Boon and Steve Hartley, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Bruces care and concern for children was evident in his service at the Union Center Christian Church as an Elder, member of the Believers Quartet, Song Leader, Mens Prayer Group member, and youth program leader. For over three decades Bruce served his community as the Commander of AWANA Club #141, where he and other leaders shared the Gospel of Christ through creative games and activities, Bible verse memorization, one-on-one mentorship, and international outreach. He also sat on the Board of Directors of Arrowhead Bible Camp, where he spent countless hours building, advising, and participating in programs and activities designed to help children of all abilities to experience the wonders of God through nature. Bruces family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses who provided extraordinary care to Bruce over the years: Jagraj Rai, M.D., Mohammad Quasem, M.D., Adam Cloud, M.D., Godson Senyondo, M.D., Bridgette Akel, M.D., his nurses, Mary and Milly, and the entire staff at Fresenius Kidney Care and Lourdes Hospice.
