Brian W. Kirkpatrick
of Maine, NY
Brian W. Kirkpatrick, a recent resident of the hamlet of Maine, NY and accomplished singer, songwriter, guitar player, and teacher passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024 at the age of 78 after a short illness. Many in the Triple Cities will remember taking guitar lessons from him in the mid and late 60’s before he relocated in California to continue his artistic pursuits and raise his family. The music he wrote followed his lifelong transitions to tell the story of the multi-talented person he was. His passion for music encouraged many aspiring musicians both locally, and in the Montrose area before he continued to expand his interest into folk and country music. The friendships he formed with fellow musicians have created long enduring bonds with those who grieve his passing. Before coming back North he enjoyed many years in the Nashville area writing, playing creating, and building.
Brian was born Jamestown, NY on August 27, 1945, and spent his earliest years with his family in Arizona. The family returned East where he spent his school years, graduating from the Manlius Military Academy before embarking on his long musical journey. He also taught with the Berlitz School of Language and spent time in Italy improving his mastery of the Italian language while teaching English to Italian speaking students.
Brian’s early years in upstate New York laid the foundation for a life of dedication to his crafts and creativity. He was also an adept carpenter and would take on a multitude of woodworking challenges, committed to excellence and perfection, not only in his music but also in the renovations and reconstruction he knew would stand the test of time. His hands, skilled in the art of creation, built more than just structures; they built memories, a legacy of craftsmanship.
Brian is predeceased by sons, Darren and Richard. He leaves behind his children Jacqueline (Matthew) and Daniel (Tina), his wife, Paola, daughter-in-law Trisha and granddaughter Ashlea, his sisters, Sandra Rozek and Susan E. Schiavone, his nieces and nephews, Kassandra Profera, Hilary Rozek, Marisa Rozek-Arena, Emily Hogle, Nicholas A. Rozek, and several great-nieces and nephews who were all part of the beautiful chorus of his life.
In remembering Brian, one cannot help but think of the words of Leonardo da Vinci, "Music is the shaping of the invisible." His music will continue to play in the hearts of those who loved him, a timeless legacy that will resonate for generations to come.
Abiding with the families' wishes, services will be held at a later date.
