Brian Deen Aingworth, 67, avid local soccer and sports coach, referee and fan, passed away October 17, 2021. Brian was born on August 16, 1954 to Thomas and Ruth Aingworth in Cleveland, and grew up in Mentor, Ohio, where his love of sports, but especially soccer and baseball blossomed in high school. He went on to enlist in the United States Army and served his country in active duty from 1975 through 1979 and later in the military reserves. Brian graduated with a degree in engineering from Ohio State University and moved to Newark Valley, New York to start an engineering career with IBM Owego. He retired from Lockheed Martin after 25 years of service. He was an active volunteer in youth sports where his intensity and passion was well known. He dedicated countless hours to umpiring, refereeing and coaching hundreds of children in baseball, basketball and soccer for the local community. He was also instrumental in building and expanding a successful community soccer program and Fathers Day tournament, bringing over a hundred teams to the area each year. Brian passed on his love of soccer and sports to the many young people he coached, including his children, who continue on with his legacy. Most recently, he loved watching his daughter Lindsey and cheering on her coed soccer team at BC United. He will be greatly missed. Brian was also a foster parent to many, and was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Newark Valley. He is survived by his children, Christopher (Jessica), David, Michael, Lindsey, grandchildren Ceith and Indira, and the mother of his children, Catherine Young, his brother, Jeff Aingworth and his sister Doreen Whitman. Brian was predeceased by his father, Thomas, his mother, Ruth (ne Reinhardt) and his brother, Cory. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation on Saturday, November 6th, from 10-1 at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, with military honors accorded and a celebration of his life immediately following.
