Bill

August 20, 1948 — June 7, 2024

William Michael Casey, 75, of Owego, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, to join the Lord and his loved ones in Heaven. Bill was born in Scranton, Pa, a son of the late William H. and Lila S. Casey.

Growing up in Binghamton, NY to an Irish Catholic family, he lived there until he answered the call to duty in the U.S. Army, serving a tour in Vietnam. He served in the 1st Battalion, 10th Infantry regiment of the Americal Division, where he received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the US Postal Service and received a degree from SUNY Broome.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years Christine (Gudaitis) Casey, his beloved children Alicia and Brian, his grandchildren Gianno Casey and Brielle Casey, his sisters Suzanne (Paul) Tierno, Helen (Alan) Whiting, sisters-in-law Veronica (John) Hurley, Melanie (Gary) Farmer, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

When Bill and Christine married, they settled in Newark Valley, where they raised their family. He loved the outdoors, his dogs, and you could often see him on his tractor being a “gentleman farmer.” Bill became interested in learning more about the bible and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley, where he enjoyed the fellowship and the wonderful church family there.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Robert Packer Hospital and everyone at the VA in Binghamton and Syracuse who took great care of him over the years.
