Betty J. Scott Young

Betty J. Scott Young, 89, of Owego (Flemingville), passed away on Sept. 13, 2017. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Charles W. Young, her children: LaVerne Skip (Nancy) Scott, Thomas (Pat) Scott, James (Sheryl) Scott, Brian (Misty) Scott, Judy Scott and Charles (Therese) Young, Jr; 20 grandchildren, many great and great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was the first born child of Raymond and Mary (Whalen) Rogers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings: Donna, Alice, Mary, Shirley, Ray, Floyd and Donald, her granddaughter, Wendy and her husband of 49 years, LaVerne R. Scott. Betty was a member of the Gospel Chapel, Owego. Many will remember seeing her at the Open Door Mission in Owego where she worked for 38 years and also served on the Board of Directors for 20 years. In addition to lovingly raising her own family with LaVerne, Betty was a foster parent to many and was active in 4-H. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills and her beautifully decorated wedding cakes as well as her crocheted afghans and dolls. Her family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley on Sunday from 4-6 PM. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Her Life will be held there on Monday at 11 am followed by burial in Flemingville Cemetery.
