Heaven gained another angel on September 1, 2015 when Betty passed from her earthly home in Newark Valley into the arms of her Lord. For the past 22 years, Betty has struggled with Alzheimers and is now free. Born on Dec. 7, 1937 in Owego, Betty was the daughter of the late Terry and Florence (Brott) Russell. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, James C., son James, Jr., siblings Ruth Smarz and Harold Russell and her later in life companion, George Belcher. She is survived by her sister Francis Kay Hatch, her sons: Martin Depew, Mike Foster, Richard Foster, David Depew; daughters: Debbie Depew, Melissa Foster, Debbie Donahue and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.Betty retired from Borg Warner in Ithaca following more than 30 years of service. She was a member of the East Berkshire United Methodist Church, loved country-western music and had crocheted many, many afghans for her loved ones.A Memorial Service and Celebration of Bettys Life will be held at the East Berkshire United Methodist Church on Friday at 2 oclock with her Pastor, Rev. Viki Andrews officiating. Her family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service.MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley is assisting with arrangements.
