Betty Ann Calkins, 84, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024, after a valiant battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born on February 10, 1940, to the late Harrison and Anita (Humiston) Thomas, Betty's life was a canvas of vibrant colors, painted with her passion, creativity, and intelligence.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of over 63 years, John Calkins, her daughter Bonnie Calkins, and numerous extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Thomas Frederick Calkins in 2017 and her three brothers.
Betty's journey began in the small town of Weltonville, NY, where she graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1958 with honors. Her thirst for knowledge eventually led her to acquire a real estate broker license.
On July 9, 1960, Betty married the love of her life, John Calkins, in a beautiful ceremony at the Jenksville Methodist Church, a church family they have held closely to their hearts. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter. Their partnership was a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other through every challenge and triumph.
Betty's creative soul found its true expression in painting. With a brush in hand, she brought to life over 850 paintings, each a reflection of her loving nature and her ability to see beauty in the world around her. Her artwork was not just a hobby but a significant part of her legacy, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the pleasure of viewing her creations.
