Barbara J. Alderman

Barbara Jean Boyd Alderman, 87, of Owego, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on October 1, 2017. Barbara was born in Endwell to Genevieve and Alton Boyd. She was predeceased last year by her husband of 67 years, Ramon Alderman, a son, Kevin Alderman, her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Dorothy Boyd, and brother-in-law Bud Reese. She is survived by her son, Dana Alderman (William Congdon), a granddaughter, Ashley (Andrew) Foley, and three great-grandchildren, Grady, Ella Rae and Connor, as well as her sister, Shirley Reese. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, who were so dear to her. Barbara and Ramon lived several places throughout the country including Mississippi, Virginia and Alabama, before returning home to New York. While travelling and raising a family, Barbara earned a degree from Northern Virginia Community College. Upon retirement, Barbara became an exceptional green thumb, growing any and every kind of vegetable, fruit and flower, and running a successful apple orchard with Ray at their home in Owego for many years. She also had a passion for bird watching and reading. Barbara brought such light to the lives of her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed. Her family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Thursday from 10-11 am followed by a funeral service there. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott.
