Barbara Henderson

Barbara "Barb" Henderson, 85, of Newark Valley, passed away on August 9, 2025. Born on August 18, 1939, a daughter of the late Leslie and Loretta (Polley) Daniels. Barb's life was characterized by her caring nature, her infectious sense of humor, and her creative spirit.

Barb is survived by her half-brother, Jim Pitcher; her cherished niece, Polley, and her husband Stephen Eichmann; as well as her adored great-nieces and nephews, Elijah, Luke (Rachel), Lydia (Calvin), Gracelyn, and Joash.

In addition to her parents, Barb was predeceased by her sister and best friend Patricia Geiger. 

After retiring from Smith Corona, she continued to contribute to her community through various roles. Whether sorting mail at the Post Office, nurturing young minds at Head Start, or providing compassionate care as a personal aide, Barb's dedication to service was evident.

Barb's interests painted the picture of a life lived fully and with passion. A woman of many talents, she possessed a great sense of humor that was as infectious as it was endearing. Her adventurous spirit soared as high as the planes she piloted, a testament to her love for flying. Music flowed through her veins, and her skill with the saxophone graced the Kirby Band for many years, bringing the joy of music to many.

Inseparable from her late sister Pat, the duo was a familiar and beloved sight, often enjoying ice cream sundaes together and embodying the essence of sisterhood. Barb's artistic flair was recognized and celebrated, with her drawings gracing the cover of The Moonlighter Magazine.

Friday nights at Depot Days were a highlight for Barb, where she loved the music and the company of her community. Her presence at these events was as much a part of the fabric of the evenings as the music itself. In addition to her love of music Barb also held a spot in her heart for animals, especially her feline companions.

Family and Friends are invited to a service celebrating Barb’s life at the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley, 40 Whig Street, Newark Valley, NY, on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at 3:00p.m. A period of visitation will take place from 2:00p.m. until the time of service. Barb will be laid to rest next to her sister in Hope Cemetery following the service.
