Barbara A. Evans, a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, of Endicott and formerly of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023. She was born on May 23, 1935, in Wilkes Barre, PA, a daughter of the late August and Cecilia (Roskey) Rudolph.
Barbara was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School in Wilkes Barre, PA. She dedicated her life to her family and to the students at Nathan T. Hall Elementary School in Newark Valley, NY where she was a Teacher’s Assistant. In addition to her professional commitment, Barbara also served on the Board of Tappan Spaulding Memorial Library in Newark Valley and was a long-time devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Newark Valley. She later became a member of the Church of the Holy Family in Endwell.
Known for her loving, thoughtful, and kind nature, Barbara's life was enriched by her family and her interests. She was a wonderful cook and baker, taking great pleasure in preparing meals for her family. An avid reader, she found joy and relaxation in a good book. She also loved the simple beauty of nature, feeding the birds and tending to her flower gardens.
In addition to her parents, Barb was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Art, and her siblings Francis, Leonard, Mary, Theresa, Elizabeth, and Ceil. She is survived by her devoted and loving children, Mary Evans, Mark Evans and his wife Jill, and John Evans and his wife Nu; her cherished grandchildren; Bailee, Chloe, Zachary, and Abigail; her loving siblings: Rosalie Rudolph and Brother Albert Rudolph, a Trappist Monk at Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery. Her memory will also be treasured by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In the words of the renowned poet Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Barbara's loving and thoughtful nature touched the hearts of all those who knew her. She will be remembered not only for her acts of kindness but for the love and warmth she brought into the lives of others.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and love.
A time of sharing memories among family and friends will be held on Sunday, July16 2023 at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. Newark Valley, NY from 2-4 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11 am on TUESDAY, July 18, at Church of The Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis St., Endwell, NY. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley.
