Arthur L. Hilliard

Arthur L. Hilliard, 76, a life-long and well known resident of Newark Valley, passed away on Sept. 29, 2016 following a brief illness. Art is survived by his best friend (since 9th grade) and loving wife of 56 years, Natalie (Sylvester) Hilliard and their children: Brian Hilliard, Dana Hilliard and Karlie (Ryan) Both; his grandchildren: Aidan Both, Tiffany Hilliard and Aaron Hilliard. Also surviving are his brother, Edwin (Brenda) Hilliard and sister, Suzanne Hills, several nieces, nephews and cousins.Art was born in Cortland, NY a son of Clinton D. and Frances (Terpenning) Hilliard. In his late teens, he served with the Ground Observer Corp during the Korean War. He also worked as a home delivery milk-man for Cooks Dairy/Creamery, was later an employee of Grummon Boat in Marathon for 13 years followed by 23 years at Chesebro-Whitman Mfg. Co (The Ladder Factory) in Newark Valley. He concluded his employment history with Goodrich Implement Co. To say he was gregarious might be an understatement! He had a contagious sense of humor and easily became a life-long friend to many of those he met along the way. But first and foremost in his life was his family. Grandson Aidan was his pride and joy! Art never missed any of Aidens sporting activities. He took great pleasure in sharing his own knowledge of hunting, fishing and archery, as well as many of his other tidbits of advice with Aidan. Arts family will gather at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley on Monday from 1 until 2:45 to listen to and share stories and memories followed by the placing of his earthly remains in Hope Cemetery at 3 PM.
