Arland N. Dayton

Arland N. Dayton, 76, of Richford, NY, passed away on December 21, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Elizabeth (Wakula) Dayton, children Andrea Dayton and Benjamin Dayton, grandson Tyler Smith, brother Gary Dayton, sister Ellen Dayton, and several nieces and nephews. Arland was born in Cortland, NY to Patricia (Baldwin) and Harris Dayton. He graduated from Dryden High School in 1964. Following his graduation, Arland worked with his father at Dayton Plumbing and Heating in Freeville. He later went to work at Cornell University Teaching Research Center in 1975, and enjoyed his time there until his retirement in 2004. Never one to be idle, he began working at the Walmart in Ithaca to keep busy. When he wasnt working, he loved mowing his 5 acre lawn and playing a round of golf. Though he wasnt a natural talent on the course, he always thoroughly enjoyed the game. In addition to his career in plumbing, Arland operated a 25 acre farm- raising sheep, goats, and several horses over the years. He had a love for animals, and a special fondness for Dobermans. He ran Tobys Place Doberman Rescue. Over the years, Arland helped to rehome over 20 unwanted Dobermans. Any rescue dogs that were too sick or unsocial to be rehomed, stayed in the care of the Daytons until the time of their passing. Three years ago, Arland got his first champion Doberman, a longtime goal finally achieved! MacPherson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
