Anna May Kuntzleman, 93 years old but always young, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Anna is survived by her daughters: Kim Kuntzleman and Evelyn Hamilton (Annas other daughter), Kathy Sanchirico (Danny) and Debbi Singer; daughter-in-law, Cathy Kuntzleman, brother-in-law, Richard Kuntzleman; grandchildren: Jaclyn, Linsey (Kenny), Gregory (Samantha), Kory, Kody (Kali), 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry and sons, Kirk and Brett. Anna May was born at home in Philadelphia, the last of six children on May 30, 1929, (the "real" Memorial Day as she always reminded everyone), as a parade was going by the house. What a fitting welcome! After 6 years, she moved to a farm in Pottstown, PA with her family where she remained through her high school graduation. Working on the farm and tending to animals, she grew up close to the earth which served her well the rest of her life. Her passion for singing began in high school and she was also a self-taught pianist. She married Harry in 1947 and they later moved to Newark Valley in 1952 where they raised their family. She was a member and regular soloist in the choir of the United Methodist Church in Newark Valley, where she made many lifelong friends. She took great pride in her voice, often singing at weddings and other events. In the 1950s she joined the Order of the Eastern Star, Onyx Chapter #196 and so began her journey of community service. She served as Matron several times and also as Ruth, her favorite star point. She was also the Grand Representative to North Carolina from New York State. Along side her best friend Margaret Cornwell, they planned a weekend event in 1964 called Newark Valley Old Home Days. It was a giant undertaking and a huge success. In 1966 the family began a one year renovation of a 5 bedroom home in the village. It became a showplace and was included on the Tioga County tour of historical homes. In addition to being a homemaker, she served several years as the secretary to the Middle School principal. Her kindness and infectious laugh will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Friends are invited to attend a period of visitation at the First United Methodist Church, Newark Valley on Sat. Oct. 15 from Noon until 1 pm under the caring assistance of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. Rev. Brandilynne Craver, Pastor and close family friend and Lay Pastor, Dean Cornwell, will officiate at her Funeral Service at 1 oclock. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
