Anita Mae Thomas'S Full Obituary

Anita M. Thomas, 93, of Newark Valley, passed peacefully on June 23, 2009. Anita is survived by her loving family, daughter, Betty (John) Calkins, son, Donald (Beverly J) Thomas, daughters-in-law, Mary Ellen Thomas Odom, Beverly A. Thomas, sister, Beatrice Hallett, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Anita was born on Oct. 2, 1915 in Candor, NY a daughter of the late John H. and Luella A. (Whipple) Humiston. Her husband Harrison M. Thomas, sons, Frank and David Thomas and sister Rosalind Peg Switzer and her twin brother Reginald Humiston,brother Donald Acla also predeceased her. Anita graduated from Candor High School with a Regents diploma in 1933. She was a devoted and long-time member of the Jenksville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and also was the pianist. She also assisted with music at the West Newark Congregational Church. Anita treasured her life as a homemaker and was a long time member of the Ladies Home Bureau. She was a faithful member of the Christian Womans Club, Owego and held memberships in Richford, Berkshire, Newark Valley and Caroline Center Senior Citizen Clubs. Road trips with her senior friends were the icing on the cake for her! Anita was also very proud of the fact she never missed a 4th of July parade in her home town of Candor.A funeral service and celebration of Anitas life will be held at 11 am on Friday at the Jenksville United Methodist Church. Pastor Viki Andrews will officiate. Interment will follow in Glen Hope Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
