Albert J. Kline

October 13, 1959 — October 11, 2024

Albert J. Kline, known affectionately as 'Al' to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024, just shy of his 65th birthday. Born on October 13, 1959, son of the late Albert F. and Marilyn (Davis) Kline, and older sibling of sister Tammy Kline.

Al was predeceased by his beloved wife, Donna Faye Kline, who passed away on October 28, 2023. Their love story was one for the ages, and together they shared countless memories. They were blessed with two sons: James Albert Kline and Jesse Daniel Kline. Al deeply cherished his role as a father, and he is survived by both sons.

Al graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1978, where he played trumpet as a member of the highly accomplished Tiger’s Pride Marching Band. The band was invited over multiple years to perform at Rich Stadium for Buffalo Bills games, and Al has been an avid Bills fan ever since. Friendships from those days were kept alive over the years, as evidenced by a recent reunion with 3 of his trumpet pals.

An alumnus with an Associate’s Degree in Technology, Al began a first career of servicing and repairing copier and office machines all across the Southern Tier. However, it was his second 16-year career as a Newark Valley school bus driver that truly captured his heart. Along with his late wife, Donna, Al found joy in transporting and looking after all the students on his routes. His involvement didn't stop at the end of the bus ride; he often volunteered to drive for special events and sports teams. Al was a constant figure at cross country and track meets, cheering on his sons and their teammates with vigor and pride.

From the 70’s to recent days, Al could frequently be found at Watkins Glen racetrack for practically any racing class event. His enthusiasm for the challenge and excitement of racing was quickly adopted by his wife and sons, and camping outings at the Glen were one of their favorite family adventures.

This enthusiasm was not just reserved for the racetrack. Al loved the outdoors and would go camping in practically any season. As his sons became interested in Scouting, Al readily volunteered to share in the adventures and lessons that scouting impart. He enjoyed fishing trips with his father and friend Bob. He loved his 2 or 3 golf outings each year with friends, and for many years enjoyed skiing the slopes of Greek Peak - including teaching both sons to ski. These activities were more than hobbies; they were opportunities for Al to connect with nature, friends, and his family, creating lasting memories.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig Street, Newark Valley, NY. A service celebrating Albert’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor David Cook. Al will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Donna in Hope Cemetery. Memories and condolences can be shared in his guestbook at www.macphersonfh.com.
