Agnes L. Hammond

Agnes L. Hammond, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was united with her precious Lord and her beloved husband, Clifford on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at the remarkable age of 101. Agnes is survived by her loving children: William (Robbie) Hammond, Thomas (Janet) Hammond, Katherine (Frank) Gombas, Sally (Dick) Dingman, Jack (Geri) Hammond and Carol (John) Hammond. Also surviving are her 13 cherished grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her dear cousin Marjorie DeMarco. A life-long resident of Newark Valley, she was born on Feb. 4, 1912 to George and Katherine Westfall. She was Salutatorian of her Newark Valley High School graduating class of 1930, located, at the time, in what is now the Post Office, and a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley. Agnes was a retired employee of Tioga County Dept. of Social Services and a very kind-hearted, giving, and beloved woman who always placed others before herself. A stranger to her, was a friend, she had yet to meet! Agnes memory was indeed remarkableexemplified by her ability to recite long poems she had memorized in grammar school, her love of reading, her pinochle skills and her ability to complete challenging word puzzles. But the focal point of her life was the Sunday family dinner. She will be greatly missed.A Funeral Service and Celebration of Her Life will be held at 4 PM on Monday, March 4, at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. Rev. Loretta Perry and Pastor Michael Spiegel will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Hope Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Monday 2 hours prior to the service from 2-4 PM.
