Edward Maynard, born at his home in Speedsville on Sept. 29, 1935, was called up yonder on April 14, 2018 at the age of 82, to be united with his late parents Arthur and Annette (Atchinson) Maynard and the many friends he made on his journey through life. Ed is survived by his brother, Robert Maynard, his sisters, Clara Maynard and Elizabeth Mathers, as well as several nieces and nephews. At the age of 16, Ed left Newark Valley High School to help on the family farm and according to Clara, "It wasnt long before a John Deere tractor appeared." As if running a dairy farm was not enough work.Ed held numerous other jobs that changed as the times changed including hauling milk --until milk cans were outlawed and hauling coal -- until heating oil emerged. And thenhe set-up his own saw mill works at the farm and continued to operate it for many years. All the while, he and Clara continued to run the farm. It was a sad day in Nov. 2015 when it became necessary to sell the dairy cows. Throughout the years, Ed met many very nice people and he always said"Thats what I like the most." A Funeral Service for Ed will be held at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Thursday, April 19th at 2 oclock. His family will receive friends there from noon until 2. Burial will follow in the Speedsville Cemetery.
