Veronica Knapickof MaineVeronica Knapick, 90, the beautiful woman known as the 'Cross Lady' to many people, passed peacefully from this life to be united with her Lord on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. Veronica was also reunited with her parents, Michael and Eva (Sebastian) Baka, her 8 siblings, her husband Joseph and daughter Joanne Hoskins. Veronica is survived by her children Joseph (Judy) Knapick, Jr, Veronica Knapick and Richard (Melinda) Knapick; her son-in-law, Charles Hoskins, her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Joe (Laura) Knapick and children Mikenzie and Cooper; Jen (Nathan) Piercy, and son Nathan; Becky (Chris) Hamlin, Larry (Janelle) Hoskins and their children, Tommy and Catie, William Hoskins and Richard Kyle Knapick. Many nieces and nephews also survive as well as her roomate and dear friend at Willow Point Nursing Home, Margaret White and very special friends and neighbors, Debra and Michael ODonovan.She was born on Jan 1, 1919 in Macdonalton, PA, was an employee of Endicott Johnson for 40 years and IBM for 8 years. For more than 15 years, she has hand made thousands of colorful ribboned crosses as gifts to those she knew and many she did not know. Each cross carried a prayer with it for the recipient and also helped to alleviate her own pain as she was making it. Veronica was a very strong and courageous woman who always lovingly placed others before herself. Her presence will be greatly missed.A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10am until 12 noon at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. A funeral service and celebration of her life will be follow there at Noon. Rev. James T. Willard will officiate. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
