Roger D. Turkof BerkshireRoger D. Turk, 73, passed peacefully on Nov. 11, 2009 following a period of declining health. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Connie (Cooper) Turk, his daughter Diana Burke and her son Kevin, his son and daughter-in-law: John and Donia Turk and their children, Noah and Sydnie. Also surviving are his 5 nieces, 1 nephew and several cousins and brother-in-law, Jerry Mahaney.Born on Dec. 29, 1935 in Newark Valley, Roger was the son of the late Clyde and Cecile (Decker) Turk and brother of the late Robert Turk and Arlene Turk Mahaney. He was a graduate of Newark Valley High School, Class of '53 and Broome Community College. He retired as an electrical technician at IBM, Glendale in 1992 following 34 years of service. He was a dedicated member of the Berkshire Fire Dept. for 45 years, had served as Treasurer and designed and built the dunkin' booth that was used during the Fireman's Field Days. An avid motorcyclist, he participated in enduros and hill climbs,an event for which he built the timing equipment. Roger was also a hunter, trap shooter and lover of nature and animals, especially his cats. He was a member of the Berkshire Rod and Gun Club and an honorary member of the Ithaca Dirt Riders. A funeral service and celebration of Rogers life will be held at 11 am on Monday at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley with his pastor, Rev. James Willard officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5 pm at the funeral home.
