Juanita M. Sherwoodof SpeedsvilleJuanita "Teedie" May (Cortright) Sherwood, born on Independence Day in 1924, went home to her Lord on September 22nd, 2009. Teedie was predeceased by her wonderful husband of 62 years, Bob, in 2004; and also by her parents, William and Beatrice (Royce) Cortright; sister, Doris (Cortright) Bosley; and brother, Carl Cortright. She is survived by her brother, Neil Cortright; and her sister, Kathlein (Cortright) Lane; her children, Gloria (Charles) Zukowski, William (Midge) Sherwood, Bob Sherwood Jr., Sharon (Charles) Neiss, and Joel (Julia) Sherwood; grandchildren, Lorie (David) Pitcher, Randy Zukowski, Kellie (Greg) Campbell, Bobbi Jo Sherwood, Tammy Sherwood, Charles (Michell) Neiss, Bob (Becky) Neiss, Jeremy (Heidi) Persons, Jason Sherwood, Jessica (Chris) Sherwood-Jester, Nathan Holbrook, Nicole Holbrook; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Matthew Pitcher, Kara Zukowski, Jack Sherwood, Sean Campbell, Jacob Frost, Ayla and Chuckie Neiss, Ethan, Nathan, and Ashton Neiss, Breeanne Murcko, Samantha and Elizabeth Persons, and Jaysen Jester; a special "granddaughter,'' Shannon Armstrong Benjamin; her beloved dog, Vinny; and many, many nieces, nephews and family friends. Juanita was a graduate of Newark Valley High School Class of 1941. During her 50 year reunion in 1991, she was honored by her Alumni Association with the Outstanding Citizen Award. On November 14th 1942, she married her soul-mate, Bob Sherwood. They were loving parents not only to their own children, but also opened their hearts and their home to numerous foster children throughout the years. She often spoke fondly of them all. Juanita was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Speedsville and was Secretary of the Women's Group of the Church. In the early 1950's she was a member of the Richford Rebekah Lodge. She also enjoyed her memberships in the Caroline Valley Homemakers Club and the Berkshire Senior Citizens Club which she joined following her retirement from Cornell University. Teedie will be greatly missed.In lieu of flowers, donations in Juanita's memory may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, c/o Anne Stoughton, Treas., 276 Brown Road, Berkshire, NY 13736. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m., on Sunday, September 27th, 2009, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Speedsville. Rev. Judith Upham and Rev.
