Eleanor C. Brown Swan, 97, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011 following a period of declining health. Mrs. Swan is survived by her children and their spouses: Loretta L. Thayer, Syracuse, Kenneth C. (M. Judy) Swan, Jr., William H. (Barbara) Swan, all of Whitney Point, Dale D. (Shelley) Swan, LaMesa, CA, daughter-in-law, Audrey J. Swan, Earlville; brother, Calvin (Cecelia) Brown, CA, sisters: Vivian (Ralph) Cook, Endicott, Laura Milliard, Waverly, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brown and Leona Dobish Brown, 21 cherished grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 26 great, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Horace D. and Grace F. (Orchard) Brown, her husband, Kenneth C. Swan, Sr. son, Gary L. Swan and siblings, Marion Webster, Grace Conley, DeWitt, William, Edwin and Francis Brown.Eleanor was born on Sept. 28, 1913 in Scranton, PA. As a child and young adult she lived in Campville. On Oct. 10, 1931, she and Ken were married at the family home and they were able to enjoy 71 years together. For many of those years, they resided in Glen Aubrey where in addition to raising their family, she served on the PTA Board and as a 4-H Leader. She was a devoted member of the Whitney Point United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and an honored member (Past Regent) of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General John Paterson Chapter, Whitney Point and for the past 2 years, Tuscarora Chapter, Binghamton. With a penchant for history and writing, she served as historian for her church and the Town of Nanticoke, reported Whitney Point and Glen Aubrey News for the former Daily Bulletin, an evening newspaper in Endicott and enjoyed her membership with the Maine Historical Society. She owned and operated Eleanors Bake Shop in Whitney Point and Countryside Dinner House in Glen Aubrey. In her spare time, she enjoyed western square dancing, traveling and her membership with the Campville Senior Citizens. Eleanor will be buried in the family plot, Glen Aubrey Cemetery at 9 am, Saturday, July 9, 2011. Her family will receive friends at the Whitney Point United Methodist Church, Saturday, JULY 9, from 10 to 11 am. A Celebration of her life will follow there at 11 am with her pastor, Rev. Ronald Wenzinger, officiating, followed by a luncheon and fellowship to honor Eleanors life.
